You Stand for God, and God Will Stand for You

In a world that often demands compromise, standing for God can feel like swimming against the tide. Yet, Scripture reassures us that when we stand for Him, He stands for us. This truth is woven throughout the Bible, from the Old Testament prophets to the apostles who boldly proclaimed the gospel.

Recently I was at a prayer breakfast where Orlando Magic basketball player Jonathan Isaac was the keynote speaker, and during his talk which chronicled some deeply challenging life experiences, he said, “You Stand for God, and God will stand for you.” This simple, yet bold statement is also featured in his book Why I Stand, which I would highly recommend you purchase and read.

One of the clearest expressions of this principle comes from 2 Chronicles 16:9: “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him.” God is actively searching for those who will stand for Him—those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him. He does not ignore the faithfulness of His people but upholds and strengthens them in their obedience.

When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to King Nebuchadnezzar’s golden image (Daniel 3), they made a bold declaration: “We will not serve your gods.” As a result, they were thrown into a blazing furnace. Yet, because they stood for God, He stood with them—literally. A fourth figure, described as “like a son of the gods,” appeared in the fire, ensuring their deliverance. Today, similar accounts flourish, as with Jonathan Isaac.

Jesus Himself warned that following Him would bring opposition: “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you” (John 15:18). Standing for God may mean facing criticism, rejection, or even persecution. Yet, Jesus also assures us: “Everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32).

This is not a promise of an easy life but of an eternal reward. God’s faithfulness is not measured by worldly success but by His sustaining grace and the ultimate victory we have in Christ. So, for the men of Forge, what does it look like to stand for God?

Holding to Biblical Truth

In a culture that constantly shifts its moral compass, standing for God means remaining rooted in His Word.

Living with Integrity

Our actions should reflect our faith, whether in business, family, or personal relationships.

Boldly Proclaiming Christ

We don’t have to be theologians to share the gospel. We simply need to be faithful witnesses.

Standing for God does not mean we won’t face challenges. But it does mean we never face them alone. Jesus promises to equip us, strengthen us, and ultimately deliver us—whether in this life or in eternity. As Paul writes in Romans 8:31, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

When we stand for God, we stand with the only One who has already won the battle. And that is a foundation no force in this world can shake.

To Freedom. To the Kingdom.
