FROM THE DAWGHOUSE…
You Don’t Have to Tune Us Out
Let’s be honest. If you’re young, there’s a good chance you’ve learned to roll your eyes the moment a “baby boomer” (like me) starts talking. You’ve been told we’re out of touch, that we don’t get it, that we messed things up and now have the nerve to lecture you about how to fix it.
I get it. Some of that’s fair.
My generation has its share of hypocrisy and blind spots.
We chased comfort more than character and sometimes confused political passion for spiritual maturity. You’ve seen that, and you’re not wrong to question it.
But here’s the thing: don’t confuse our failures with the failure of truth.
The Gospel, the good news about Jesus Christ, doesn’t belong to one generation. It’s not a boomer thing. It’s not a church-camp slogan. It’s not the religion of your parents or grandparents. It’s life itself.
And I promise you this: Jesus is not who the loudest voices make Him out to be.
You’ve probably heard Christianity described as judgmental, narrow, outdated. You’ve seen Christians who act proud, angry, or afraid. But that’s not Jesus. Read the Gospels for yourself. The people who irritated Jesus most weren’t the young or the searching. They were the religious elite who thought they had God all figured out.
Jesus saw through the noise.
He loved people who were messy, skeptical, and doubting. He looked into the eyes of people society had written off – the poor, the sick, the sinner, the lost – and said, “Follow Me.” That’s the same invitation He gives you. Not “believe like your parents.” Not “clean up your life.” Just, “Follow Me.”
Here’s the question: are you willing to look past the echo chamber long enough to see if He’s real?
Because let’s face it, the world’s noise is deafening. Every side is shouting. Social media rewards outrage. Everyone has a platform, but no one’s at peace. You’re told to “find your truth,” but nobody can tell you what truth even means anymore.
Jesus didn’t say, “Find your truth.” He said, “I am the truth.” (John 14:6 NIV) That’s not arrogance, it’s rescue. He’s not trying to control you; He’s trying to free you.
If you’ve been hurt by church people, I get it. If you’re skeptical of old voices, I understand that too. But don’t reject the Gospel because of the generation that carried it imperfectly. Truth doesn’t expire with age.
So, here’s my ask…
Don’t tune us out, at least not until you’ve met Jesus for yourself. Open a Bible, maybe start with the book of John. Ask God, if He’s real, to show Himself. That’s not weakness. That’s courage.
You don’t owe me anything. But you owe it to yourself to find out if the One who made you also loves you enough to die for you.
Spoiler alert: He does.
