FROM THE DAWGHOUSE…
WHAT CHRISTIAN MEN PRAY FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS
“There are some ideas that are so preposterous that only intellectuals would believe them.”
George Orwell
We’ve been living that reality in the U.S. for the past several years and in this past election we thankfully saw that the majority of Americans of every type have seen the inherent irrationality and foolishness of those views and acted by voting to stop them. Christians went a step further, well, many of us did, and we saw the evil that motivated those views and spoke up against them.
It’s not worth the time here to catalogue the preposterous beliefs and evil policies put forth in American culture of late. You do know the ideas and views I’m talking about. We never want to go back to them.
When a positive cultural revolution has taken place, an observant Christian will see the hand of God at work and make steps to get in alignment with what God is doing. A positive cultural revolution in fact has just taken place and Christian men can do many things right now and step into the role that our Lord Jesus Christ has already crafted for us.
Here’s a strong passage for Christian men of all ages until Jesus returns in Glory and Power:
A Call to Prayer
“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. 7 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.” 8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.
1 Timothy 2:1-8 NASB
There are no difficulties of interpretation in the passage above. Our job description as men of the church is to pray. So let’s do it!
Here is what I’m praying for some of our governing officials:
- Joe Biden/Kamala Harris – true conversion to Christ and the joy of experiencing forgiveness of sins as I have. That they would then live productive lives serving God and people.
- President-Elect Donald Trump
-
-
- For a true conversion to Jesus Christ (if that has not yet occurred) and joy and wisdom and strength in serving God and the people of this country.
- That he will have spiritual awareness of the enemies that will continue to attack him.
- That he will be able to defeat the evil forces that have and will attack him.
- That he will have wisdom in choosing wise cabinet officials and good and godly advisors around him.
- That he will be positive and favorable towards Christianity through his administration.
- That he will successfully build and sustain relational bridges to all ethnicities in our country
- That he will be pro-family and increasingly pro-life.
- That he will have a super awareness of everyone of his words before he speaks them and the impact they will have on all types of people and how his enemies may distort them.
- That he will stop the U.S. from exporting abortions around the world.
- That he will in fact stop those politicians who are pro-war from fomenting new wars and will bring peace to the war in Ukraine.
-
I’m praying about other issues as well. Almost all other issues! A revolution has taken place in the U.S.
It is an incomplete revolution.
Millions still hold some crazy, silly and evil beliefs.
We are not trying to create a Christian Nation. We are advancing the Kingdom of God and we’d love every man, woman and child to come into it through faith in Jesus Christ!
At minimum as men, let’s pray every day then for the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom in our hearts and all around us, and pray that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven!
I will never go back to a more passive involvement as a Christian citizen. I will pray. I will speak up about Jesus, and I will give the Bible’s view of all the issues of the day.
Will you join me in a new engaged and masculine obedience by praying for our leaders?
