FROM THE DAWGHOUSE…

                                                BOOKS & THE BOOK

“Make Your Bed…Little Things That Can Change Your Life …and Maybe The World”    by Admiral William H. McRaven

Sometimes when I’m downing my first cup of java during my morning DAWG, I’ll jump-start my mind by reading from a book instead of going immediately to the Bible.

I just finished the above book I mentioned, and it’s a good and quick read.  Of his 10 ideas, several of them sync up with what we teach at FORGE every week.

Notice the subtitle:  “Little Things That Can Change Your life…etc.”
This is really a game-changing life altering idea: That little things can make a big difference.  It’s similar to James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits-An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones.  Focus on the word atomic, small.

That’s my next read.
McRaven’s first point is that if you make your bed in the morning you’re starting out with a completed task and that sets the stage of motivation for the rest of your day.
My first completed task of the day is my DAWG.

My day isn’t right without it.  I’ll be teaching on DAWG this July 20 so don’t miss it.  If you’ve heard my teaching on it it’ll be a good review, and I’m always adding new truth to that message.
But…

…. there are books, and then there is THE BOOK, the Bible.

I will sometimes break up how I do my DAWG to keep it interesting, like I said starting with a quick read in a human author’s book, but I can’t stay there because though there are good ideas, there isn’t the internal transformation for my life from human books that can only come when the Spirit of God takes the truth of God and applies it to my heart.  And God doesn’t promise to speak to His sons through human books but He definitely does through The Book.  His Book.

Guys I know I mention books a lot as I give FORGE Talks each week, and I do so because I’m an addicted learner and I’m a communicator who has to keep us all awake and thinking; new content and illustrations from human books can sometimes help us understand Biblical Truth.

But that’s my big idea here today:  It’s The Book that the Lord Jesus uses through His Spirit to change us, grow us, develop us!

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

I’m prizing THE BOOK so much more than books these days.  I’m going to keep growing every day, and it’s because of that Book.

You too!

You take it to heart,
