SEALED: Not Hoping but Knowing

As Pastor Pete shared with us this week, there’s a word in the Epistle to the Ephesians that should change everything for a man who follows Jesus: SEALED.

In Ephesians 1:13–14 (NIV), Paul writes: “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance…”

Not “maybe.”
Not “we’ll see.”

GUARANTEED!

So, when the question comes – “If you died today, would you go to heaven?” – what is your answer?  Sadly, too many respond, “I hope so.” That sounds humble. It feels safe. But it’s not what Scripture teaches.

“Hope so” puts the weight back on you.

Sealed puts the weight on Jesus.

In the ancient world, a seal meant ownership, authenticity, and security. A king would press his signet ring into wax, marking something as his. No one questioned it. No one broke it without consequence.

That’s the image Paul is giving us.

When you heard the gospel – the real gospel – and believed in Jesus Christ, something happened that you didn’t manufacture, earn, or maintain:

GOD SEALED YOU!

Not because you were strong enough.
Not because you were consistent enough.
Not because you cleaned yourself up enough.

Because Jesus is faithful.

The Holy Spirit is not just a feeling you tap into on good days. He is the mark of God on your life. The down payment. The guarantee. The proof that what God started, He will finish.

To be clear…

If your confidence is in your performance, you will always say, “I hope so.” Because deep down, you know you don’t measure up. But if your confidence is in Jesus – crucified, risen, and reigning – then your answer changes: “Yes. Not because of me, but because of Him.”

This isn’t arrogance.

It’s alignment with scriptural truth.

Being sealed doesn’t make you casual about sin. It makes you serious about your identity. You don’t fight for approval; you fight from it.  You don’t obey to earn love; you obey because you are already loved and secured.

Men of Forge, this matters…

A man who “hopes” hesitates.
A man who knows he is sealed stands firm.

When temptation comes, when doubt creeps in, when life hits hard, you don’t drift back into uncertainty. You anchor yourself in what God has already declared: You are His. Fully. Finally. Forever.

Not on probation.
Not on a performance plan.

Sealed!

The next time the “heaven” question comes, don’t shrink back. If you have truly trusted in Jesus, say it plainly: “Yes. I’m going to be with Him.”

Not because you’re good enough, but because Jesus is.
