FROM THE DAWGHOUSE…
Do You Know You Belong to God?
A Christmas Message for the Men of Forge
Christmas is full of noise, tradition, and movement. Family gatherings, church services, travel, gifts, and obligations stacked high like cords of wood. But underneath it all lies a quiet and stabilizing truth that Advent invites us to recover. You belong to God.
That’s not sentiment. It’s Scripture.
And few passages declare it as beautifully as Mary’s song in Luke 1. After the angel announces that she will carry Jesus, the Son of the Most High, Mary doesn’t respond with fear, pride, or self-promotion. She responds with identity. She knows who she is and whose she is.
“My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.” (Luke 1:46–48)
Mary’s whole song is anchored in one profound reality: She belongs to God.
She sees herself as His servant.
She trusts His character.
She celebrates His mercy.
She stakes her future on His faithfulness.
In a moment when her world could have felt chaotic, uncertain, or overwhelming, she stands firm because she knows her life is in the hands of a faithful God.
Men, that is the gift Advent places before us.
Do you know that you really, truly, deeply belong to God?
Belonging doesn’t come from our performance, our past, or our perceived strength. It’s not earned by “spiritual progress” or lost through struggle. Belonging is a gift given through Christ, secured in His coming, purchased at His cross, and sealed by His Spirit.
Jesus didn’t enter the world to create religious consumers.
He came to redeem sons.
He came to make a people His own.
He came to claim you/me, not vaguely or generally, but personally.
Paul writes, “You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20) Advent reminds us when that story begins. When God took on flesh to come for His people.
Mary sings because the Mighty One has done great things for her. And that same God has done great things for us. Not just to save us from sin, but to bring us into a relationship of belonging. Where we can say, with confidence, “I am His.”
For the men of Forge, this truth matters.
We are hammered, shaped, sharpened, and refined not by our own willpower but by the God who calls us His own. Belonging fuels courage. Belonging creates stability. Belonging forms men who live purposefully, serve faithfully, and lead their homes and communities with strength anchored in grace.
This Christmas, slow down long enough to hear Mary’s song as your invitation. Let the Advent season remind you that God sees you.
He knows you.
He calls you.
He delights to make you His.
So, ask yourself: Do I truly know I belong to God?
And if your answer feels shaky, hear this. Christ came so that your answer could be sure. May this season renew your confidence in the God who sent His Son, not just to the world, but for you.
Have a truly blessed Christmas.
Stand firm in the One to whom you belong.
