FROM THE DAWGHOUSE…
Living a Faithful Life Beyond Sunday
In Christian circles, a saying often circulates: “Satan doesn’t care if you go to church on Sunday, Forge on Tuesday, Bible study on Friday, or pray daily, as long as you find time to sin freely during all other times.” This thought-provoking statement underscores a vital truth about our walk with God. While attending church, participating in Bible studies, and maintaining a prayer life are essential components of Christian living, they are not the entirety of it.
The challenge for believers is to embody their faith consistently, not just during designated religious activities.
Yes, attending church, Forge, Bible study, and praying are invaluable practices that strengthen our relationship with God. However, these activities must be complemented by a lifestyle that reflects Christ’s teachings. James 1:22-25 reminds us, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Our faith should influence every aspect of our lives, transforming how we interact with others, make decisions, and respond to challenges.
Compartmentalizing our faith – reserving it for Sundays or specific moments – creates a dangerous dichotomy. It allows for a dual life, where one can appear devout in religious settings but live contrary to God’s commandments outside of them. This inconsistency not only undermines our witness but also weakens our spiritual growth. Matthew 7:21-23 offers a sobering warning: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
A frightening, yet necessary reminder, wouldn’t you agree? So, what might we do to put on the armor, and protect ourselves?
Begin each day with a commitment to live according to God’s will…
Romans 12:1-2 urges us to present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, and to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
Let our actions align with our professed beliefs…
Colossians 3:17 advises, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Guard our hearts…
Proverbs 4:23 cautions, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Be vigilant about what you allow into your mind and spirit, ensuring it aligns with God’s truth.
Surround yourself…
With fellow believers (Forge Fire Team) who can encourage and hold you accountable. Hebrews 10:24-25 highlights the importance of spurring one another on toward love and good deeds and not giving up meeting together.
Maintain a robust prayer life…
That extends beyond asking for personal needs. Seek God’s guidance and strength to resist temptation and remain faithful in all circumstances. Ephesians 6:18 exhorts us to pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
In the end, the true test of our faith is not confined to church attendance or religious rituals but is evident in our daily lives. As Christians, we are called to a continuous, authentic relationship with Christ that permeates every moment. By living out our faith consistently, we honor God and provide a compelling testimony to those around us.
Let us strive to be faithful in all things, knowing that our actions reflect the heart of our Savior.
To the Kingdom
