Described more than Prescribed…

Since the beginning of the year, Pete and I have had a lot of conversations about our DAWGs…

Daily

Appointment

With

God

Our desire and prayer has been for more and more FORGE men to be intentionally building time into their day for God to do His Energizing of our lives, by Grace and in the Power of the Holy Spirit.  Our good, good Father has been faithful to continue to answer those prayers.

Recently, as FORGE TEAM leaders have been gathering to be better equipped to lead, Pete lead us, by teaching as well as modeling, about what a DAWG time is all about.  One of my takeaways from watching Pete model what his DAWG time is like was realizing the power and impact of seeing it.  I’ve heard it said that some things are better described than just Prescribed…meaning that it’s one thing to know these good things for our life(prescription) but its so much better to see it lived out in front of us(description).

With that as context, below is part of this week for me, how I wrote out some of the things God was impressing upon me as I spent time with Him, in His Word and praying.

Week of 4/19-4/25…Things to think about; Me, God the Father, the world, God in the world, God in the world with Me.

Monday…Abundance

  • The Means of Abundance-Therefore, since we have been justified, that is, acquitted of sin, declared blameless before God by faith, let us grasp the fact that we have peace with God and the joy of this reconciliation with Him through our Lord Jesus Christ! Through Him we also have access, by faith, into this remarkable state of grace in which we firmly and safely and securely stand. Let us rejoice in our hope and the confident assurance of experiencing and enjoying the glory of our great God…..Romans 5:1-2
  • The Battle regarding Abundance-The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it in abundance, to the full, till it overflows…..John 10:10
  • The Spoils/Plunder of Abundance-And God is able to make all grace, every favor and earthly blessing come in abundance to you, so that you may always, under all circumstances, regardless of the need have all sufficiency in all things, being completely self-sufficient in Him, and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity…..2 Corinthians 9:8

Great and priceless treasure is in the house of the righteous one who seeks godly instruction and grows in wisdom.

But trouble is in the income of the wicked one who rejects the ways of God.

Proverbs 15:6

Charles Bridges said…The treasures of the wicked are too much for their good, and too little for their lust, unable to satisfy their senses, much less their souls. They may “take wings” at any moment; and, while they continue, unlike the treasures of the righteous, they are burdened with trouble.

Tuesday…Worship

but be filled by the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your hearts to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for each other in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…..Ephesians 5:18-20

My thinking on worship was fueled by words from Scotty Smith…Worship is your life poured out to God for His glory.

It is right and good to “make music from our hearts to the Lord.”  While the music of our hearts can sound like the music we think of, remember that these offerings are perfected at the “ears” of God.

Your music may be…

your witness

words you speak

the way you dance, perform at your job, or displaying patience.

We are uniquely crafted to offer “the music from our heats” to the Lord.  Seek God and pray that He would develop and “press out” of you the music in your heart.  Share the music with others for the glory of God!

Wednesday…Favor

In the light of the king’s face is life, And his favor is like a cloud bringing the spring rain.

Proverbs 16:15

And let the gracious favor of the Lord our God be on us; Confirm and establish for us the work of our hands…Yes, confirm and establish the work of our hands.

Psalms 90:17

There is more I wish I had room to share, but hey…we’re guys and you’re probably reaching the end of your reading/time capacity so I’ll stop now.

My hope for all of us is to be Energized by Grace, even as you hear me describe what my DAWG time has been like this week, to continue in your DAWG and then share what you are learning with others.
