Since it’s November 8, we begin our new series in Proverbs in chapter 8. A chapter of Proverbs a day keeps stupidity away! Great men are wise men.
Pray, read, think, apply
8 Does not wisdom call?
Does not understanding raise her voice?
2 On the heights beside the way,
at the crossroads she takes her stand;
3 beside the gates in front of the town,
at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud:
4 “To you, O men, I call,
and my cry is to the children of man.
5 O simple ones, learn prudence;
O fools, learn sense.
- Success is for the taking because God makes sure He’s constantly broadcasting His wisdom out there for us to hear and apply. “Wisdom” (the Hebrew word is hokma) is personified as a woman perhaps to get men to pay attention, as we usually do to women when they walk by us. Wisdom is skill for living; right living that brings success as God defines success. So here we see that at every possible strategic location we can find wisdom-on the heights over-looking well-traveled roads, or where two roads come together or in front of the city. Wisdom can be found everywhere because God is everywhere.
Are you actively seeking and looking for God’s wisdom all the time? It will bring you life success and it is yours for the taking.
- Wisdom is applicable everywhere. There is no where we don’t need wisdom. Wisdom is not just knowledge it’s understanding (v1) of the way God makes life work best. Notice again these verses. Not only can wisdom be found everywhere, it is needed everywhere: in marriage, raising kids, work, leadership, standing up for good causes and stopping evil, finances, and relationships. As we keep reading in Proverbs we will see that skill for life is needed in every area of life.
Where do you need wisdom from God right now?
- Wisdom is also liberally given to those who’ve messed up big time in the past. Check out v5. Where have you done something really dumb or hurtful to others and/or yourself? My ears burn thinking about several real situations in my life. Just because we’ve made bad decisions in the past and been foolish doesn’t mean that defines us. Life is not determined. Stupid is not forever. Christ is the wisdom of God and He frees us from our past to a better future!
Have you been defined by your past mistakes? Get Wisdom now! You are not your past and your future is bright!
You take it to heart!
